Two years after beginning my press photography career, I finished it and went looking for a different path. I started a Bachelor of Science in geology and geography -with a little photography on the side.
Gaining a deeper understanding of earth and environment sciences changed the way I perceive the world. Knowledge of orogenic processes, deep time and human interaction with the environment, influenced my life and photographic choices profoundly. The images below were produced in 2013 while undertaking a first year Fine Arts elective unit at the University of Tasmanian, Launceston. The process was a digital capture to analogue darkroom print output. I created medium format negatives from the digital files and printed them onto Ilford Multigrade RC Photo paper as 20 x 30 inch prints. The negatives printed on to OHP sheets produces a distressed and degraded look that interacted well with a series of images of environmental weathering and decomposition. The original prints were photographed for digital display in 2019. This digital to analogue process is something I intend to explore again. |
