Mother land |
From the 1850's my Mother's ancestors began arriving in the South Island of Aotearoa/New Zealand, they came mainly from the British Isle's either directly or via Australia. Their lives are recorded in the archives, their names attached to landmarks here and there. Unsettling stories of resilience and endeavour to “break in” and “overcome” the environments they found themselves in. As I am becoming more familiar with this land and their stories I see more dimensions to the relationship between land and family.
