Certificate III in Art Craft Practice

On and off I spent around seven year living in Kalgoorile, WA. I Most of the time I was a stay at home mum, I had two children while we lived there, my husband worked in the mines and I suffered severe post-natal depression.

In 2001 and 2002 attended night school at Kalgoorlie College/ Curtin University of Technology undertaking a Certificate III in Craft Practices, I didn't see it as a serious educational experience or career development - it was therapy.

The images below are from an
Artist Residency I undertook at KCGM's (Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mine), Mt Charlotte Mine in 2001. The mining operations were closing down and the staff being re-distributed to other operations, I spent a week photographing many aspects of the miners working and social lives, on an off the mine site.

This was my first experience with documentary photography, these photographs were taken of Ilford XP2 film, processed in a standard C41 lab, printed by hand onto 8 x 10 inch Fotospeed, Multigrade RC paper. The original printers were scanned in 2019.
