Certificate of Foundation Studies in the Visual Arts

In 1995 I moved from a small country town at the top of the South Island of New Zealand to Christchurch, I enrolled in Certificate of Foundation Studies in the Visual Arts, run at Cashmere High School and moderated by Christchurch Polytechnic, it was a pathway course for young people who's previous high school had not provided adequate arts training to directly enter a tertiary course.

The course provided a really solid foundation in aspects of art and design, including art history, computer aided design, photography and drawing. Photography was always my strongest medium and the warm dim darkroom was my Home.

The images below are from my final assessment portfolio; taken on Ilford HP5 and Kodak Tri-X film, developed by hand and printed as 8 x 10 inch prints onto Kodak Multigrade RC paper. The original prints were scanned and uploaded in February 2019.
